Immersive experiences

Stories should sometimes be entered, not simply viewed.

Ainad Gallery brings visual art, sound, installation and storytelling together to bring audiences closer to important human stories.

Three stories.

Each experience begins with a story. The documentary works presented here offer a point of entry.

The Flood

What remains. What begins again.

Flood displacement changes the relationship between people and the places they call home. The photographs in this chapter ask us to stay with the details of daily life: a reflection, a temporary shelter, a child looking back at the camera.

Children are reflected in a narrow mirror beside the fabric of a temporary shelter.

The Unsung

Attention to lives too easily passed by.

Some acts of care are difficult to see from a distance. They are part of the work of sustaining a household, supporting another person or continuing through uncertainty. The Unsung begins with an invitation to pay closer attention.

A girl looks across a settlement of tents and livestock beneath a heavy sky.

Voices of Her

A story told with its author present.

Women’s lives and creative practices hold many different stories. Voices of Her makes space for experience, authorship and possibility without reducing them to a single account.

The experience brings the gallery’s interest in women and creativity into an immersive setting. It asks how an audience might encounter a story with greater attention to the person whose voice gives it shape.

A woman in a patterned face covering balances a painted clay vessel on her head.

Help give these stories a setting.

We welcome conversations with artists, sound practitioners, exhibition makers, cultural institutions and potential host spaces. Share the experience you bring and the chapter you would like to explore with us.
